Sustainability
Springfield Precision Instruments is committed to helping preserve the environment through a reduction of greenhouse gas emissions, using environmentally sustainable materials, when possible, reducing packaging and reclaiming manufacturing waste materials.
We have taken the first step by purchasing Green-E certified Renewable Energy Certificates (REC’s) to offset 100% of our electricity use with green energy from wind farms, biogas and run of river hydroelectric plants. Our purchase of RECs supports the development of green energy and can prevent over 1,250,000 pounds of CO2 emissions from being produced by conventional power plants using nonrenewable fossil fuels. This improvement is equivalent to:
- 123 passenger cars NOT driven for 1 year
- 73 households’ electricity use for 1 year
- 473 acres of pine or fir forests storing CO2 for 1 year
- 203 tons of waste recycled instead of landfilled
What is Global Warming?
Global Warming is caused when gases, mostly carbon dioxide, from cars and fossil fuel power plants are produced and released into the environment. This pollution rises up to the surface of our atmosphere and traps heat. The higher the level of gases produced the more heat is being trapped.
What are signs of Global Warming?
Signs of Global Warming are increases in the frequency or intensity of many kinds of extreme weather:
- Hurricanes
- Wildfires
- Droughts
- Downpours, Blizzards & Floods
- Heat Waves
- Ocean warming & rise in sea level
- Glacial melting & Artic warming
Are there long term effects?
Long term effects include:
- Health issues
- Changes in weather patterns
- Economic
What can I do to reduce/prevent global warming?
You can effortlessly make an impact on Global Warming by
- Replacing lights bulbs to compact fluorescents or LEDs
- Adjust your thermostat
- Upgrade appliances to Energy Star rated products
- Keep your car tuned up and tires properly inflated
- Recycle
- Choose products made with eco-friendly materials
